Our participation in the Staff Value Program (SVP) with atr Accountants  has given us a clearly defined method and structure to reviewing staff performance and development. Our staff really appreciated the opportunity to provide us with written feedback prior to their review sessions and this helped us target their areas of concern in a considered manner. Everyone has been provided with documented individual and team tasks and goals to achieve over specified time periods. The SVP process has focused us on clearly defining position descriptions, helping staff achieve their aims, implementing strategies to improve commu nication within the workplace and reporting business performance to staff on a regular and consistent basis. As we develop the SVP, we hope to introduce a bonus reward scheme to further engage staff in the business. The SVP has been a valuable part of improving our business performance.

We have been with atr Accountants now for 25 years and originally started with John Lawrence, I believe we would have been some of John’s very earlier clients. We started with one supermarket and two staff, the early years were very difficult with large interest rates of around 20% in 1988.

John gave us the greatest bit of advice we ever had and that was to buy our building even though it was overpriced by $20K to $30k which meant we didn't have a landlord that lived in Greece and we could control our own future.As time moved on we set up our own Self Managed Super Fund and as I am moving to transitional super that was his second best advice.

About ten years ago Andrew became involved with our business personally and has helped to drive our business and mentor myself, we now have two supermarkets and employ over 100 people.

atr have executed our business and succession planning and in five years’ time our children will have purchased the two supermarkets off us enabling both of us to be able to step away from our business (this will be difficult for me to let go).
